Promoting Nurses as Champions for a Healthier America

The Challenge

The U.S. health care system is at a pivotal moment, facing increasing demands to meet the evolving, diverse, and complex needs of the population. Nurses—among the most trusted professionals—are uniquely positioned to help address challenges of access, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Recognizing this, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, AARP, and AARP Foundation launched the long-standing Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action (CFA) to empower nurses as leaders and innovators in building a health care system that is more effective, equitable, and sustainable.

Our Solution

IQ Solutions provided comprehensive communications and public affairs support for CFA to increase policymakers’ and influencers’ awareness of the critical role nurses can play in modernizing the health care system to be more patient-centered, seamless, and efficient. This entailed message, content, and materials development, speechwriting, promotion of thought leadership, earned media outreach, executive media and presentation trainings, and stakeholder engagement. We also provided technical assistance to various state-based Action Coalitions, helping them maximize the impact of their online and on-the-ground community outreach to promote policy change.  

The Impact

In just a few years, we helped CFA establish 50 State Action Coalitions that advanced nursing education, increased RN-to-BSN enrollment by 57%, and implemented innovative academic models in 30 states. CFA also launched the Nurses on Boards Coalition, expanded access to care by removing Advanced Practice Registered Nurse barriers, promoted an inclusive workforce, and raised national awareness of nursing’s vital role in health care transformation.
